Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the major festivals of Islam and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is celebrated with great pomp in all the countries of the world including India. On Eid-ul-Fitr, people from the Muslim community gather in mosques or open spaces to offer special prayers. This is known as Eid prayer. It is a day of celebration, charity, forgiveness and reconciliation.
The date of Eid-ul-Fitr varies every year as it is based on the sighting of the moon. The exact date of this festival is decided by the sighting of the crescent moon. That’s why people eagerly wait to see the moon. It is believed that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in India on Saturday, April 22 when the moon is sighted on Friday. The moon is estimated to rise at 06:26 in the country’s capital Delhi.
Praying for peace and peace from God
Many countries celebrate Eid on the same date as it is celebrated in Saudi Arabia. However, Eid ul Fitr in India is celebrated on the second day of moon sighting in Saudi Arabia. Moon sighting in India is announced by the Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee. On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, people wish each other. Donations etc. have special importance on this day.
Zakat ul-Fitr (Eid donation) is given before the Eid prayer at the end of the month of Ramadan. Muslims donate some part of their income in the name of Zakat to help the poor. On the other hand, apart from seviyan, various dishes like kheer, phirni, halwa, gulab jamun etc. are prepared on this day. People forget their grudges and hug each other and pray to God for peace and peace.
