Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), May 22 (PTI) Two jawans of the CoBRA battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in an encounter with Maoists in Naxal-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Police officials gave this information on Monday.
According to police officials, two to three Maoists are also likely to be injured in the encounter.
He said the police had received information that Maoists had planted a landmine between Pusnar and Hiroli villages under Gangalur police station limits in the district to harm the security forces.
Police officials said that after the information, a joint team of District Reserve Force (DRG) and Cobra Battalion was sent on patrol from Pusnar camp on Sunday. The jawans of the team were in the forest at around eight o’clock in the night when the Naxalites started firing on the security forces. After this, the security forces also retaliated. Constables Nakul and Mohammad Shahid of Cobra 202 Battalion were injured in the incident.
He told that after firing from both the sides for some time, the Naxalites fled from there.
Police officials said that the jawans were injured in hands and legs. He has been admitted to the district hospital in Bijapur for treatment. The condition of both the injured jawans is normal and out of danger.
He told that during the encounter at least three Naxalites were also seen getting shot, which were taken away by their accomplices. The search operation is going on in the area.
