Baripada: Police on Friday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly trying to kill his stepfather after he was denied pension benefits at Basinga in Mayurbhanj. The accused has been identified as Kartik Sahu of Bartana village. His stepfather is Ramchandra Sahoo (63), a retired teacher.
Basinga IIC Prabhanshu Shekhar Mishra told on Thursday that the accused demanded the pension money of his stepfather. When Ramchandra refused, there was a heated argument between the two. Enraged, Karthik grabbed a knife and stabbed his stepfather in the stomach.
Ramachandra was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to Basinga Hospital by the family members. Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment in ICU.
On the same day, Ramchandra’s elder son Ganeshwar Sahu lodged an FIR at the Basinga police station, on the basis of which a case was registered under sections 324, 325, 307 and 506 of the IPC. Karthik was later arrested and produced before JMFC Court, Betnoti.
